Living together with Ulla a fibre crafter is not always easy. I get dragged along to spinning meetings, various textile exhibitions and I even have to act as her assistant when she runs her workshops and the likes. Ulla taught me how to spin in 1990 while travelling WA. I really love to sit in front of my spinning wheel and meditate and think about my next master piece to create in my kitchen. Being a chef and cooking all day long in my dreams is a very important craft for me and indeed needed for survival. Ulla often ask if I would like to take up knitting but I always refuse and refer to my knitting attempts at sea working on cruising ships going to exotic destinations in the world. Not much time for knitting and too tight anyway. Good for making rope to anchor a boat … [Read more...] about My Handbag Beanie

My Compass Beanie
I was born in Denmark in Scandinavia in 1958. In August 1988 I left my home country with my partner Peder. We travelled through half of the world to come to Australia three months later. Over the years and at the time of writing we have travelled 40 countries and much inspiration has been gained and many lessons learned. My beanie is like a compass you need when navigating the desert, savannah and tundra even when you are flying high in the sky, swimming deep at sea or walking the streets of the big cities of the world. My" Compass Beanie" comes in handy when you stroll in the big forest. In fact no matter where you are my "Compass Beanie" will show you the way and lead you on the right path. The four lower antennas symbolises the four directions East, North, West and South. When you … [Read more...] about My Compass Beanie
Mukata! Mukati! Muna! Beanies From all Around
Colours of the Rainbow and inner light glowing in the threads of the spider web swirling in cocoons and weaving its way on my path to inner reflection and reality. I am giving thanks to creation for being here and enjoying both the inner spiritual and the outer physical journey. My journey through more than 40 different countries in the world and their cultures has inspired me to fulfil my dreams and here I am at Alice Springs Beanie Festival. Born in Denmark in Scandinavia in 1958 growing up in an environment full of supreme handicraft and excellent craft man ship has been of great inspiration to me as a teenager and in my twenties. Fibres of Life
"Fibres of Life" a most beautiful exhibition was held at the Tanks in Cairns QLD Australia from the 19th November to the 12th December 2010. The exhibition featured textile and fibre work from Canada, China, Japan, Latvia, Papua New Guinea, USA and our local region Cairns and the Atherton Tablelands. It was a very colourful and inspiring event. ATASDA which is Australian Textile Arts and Surface Design Association Inc. showed their travelling exhibition Maharajah’s Garden a great little exhibition. The "Fibres of Life" exhibition was organised by the Cairns Regional Council Sister Cities Committee and they did a fabulous job. The layout of the exhibition swept me away. It was a great pleasure for the eye, full of surprises and diversity well balanced and colour … [Read more...] about Fibres of Life
My Bird Eye Chilli Beanie
I love to work with natural fibres and this "Bird Eye Chilli" beanie represents the kind of work I am indulging in at the moment. I like fluffy bits and pieces sticking out here and there. It brings life to the beanie and it also attracts birds from all over the world. Not only two legged and arms ones but also those which fly around with wings. Birds come along and pull out fibres for nest building. Being a "Bird Eye Chilli" beanie it will also attract the Bower Bird. The Bower Bird loves to de-worm themselves on chillies and at the same time take in the power of the orange colour. Orange is the colour of joy and wisdom. It supplies us with plenty of energy and creates an alert mind. It is the colour of the Sun. Because orange is a mix of powerful red and wilful yellow, it … [Read more...] about My Bird Eye Chilli Beanie
