My collection of hats

July 21, 2015 by Ulla

Every man and his dog need a hat. Have you ever thought about how a hat can change your image in a split second? Also every hat feels different and so do you when you wear it. I have been roaming around the local op-shops and was quite amazed with what I found in the head dress department.

After a while you grow out of your old hats. They need a touch up and a dash of sea salt from the Baltic world or even from Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean. Get the knitting needles going, scissors and fabric scrap from your stash. Go to your local dump or have a look in your own rubbish bin for recyclable stuff. Put it all together and before you can count to 217 you have a master piece in your hands. My hat collection turned into a brand new collection of Wonky Vessels.

Wonky Vessels

Wonky Vessels speak for themselves. First of all the vessels are very wonky. You can shape them a bit but they have their own personality and each vessel is the one off. They are all born to stand out as they do not blend in like the artist herself.

The vessels are made out of old hats pulled apart and then assembled utilizing recyclable stuff, fabrics and yarns. Handmade felt is incorporated in a few vessels and knitting has been implemented a well.

The work is about thinking outside the square. It is about rattling your comfort zone to create some chaos before your nerves settles down into order again.

The Wonky Vessels is a selection of contemporary art pieces juggling textile and mixed media.
